For many people, pasta is a favorite food, and often a cornerstone of weekly meal routines. From classic spaghetti and meatballs, to exquisite truffle tagliatelle, Italian-inspired cuisine is a favorite for its versality, robust flavors and ability to feed a crowd.
Whether you’re planning an at-home date night with your partner, hosting friends for a get together, or treating your family to a five course meal, Thermador is here with our spin on an at-home Italian-inspired menu.
Your Ideal Menu
Start by identifying what you want to serve as your Antipasto, or appetizer. A charcuterie board featuring a variety of cheeses, meats, dried fruits and crackers is great for serving a group of people, while a homemade bruschetta is perfect for two. Try it on our Rustic Bread made in your Steam Oven, which gives it the perfect crust and soft interior, or serve this with olive oil and balsamic vinegar for a delicious medley of flavors.
Next, select your Primo, or first course. This is where the pasta comes in! We recommend fresh, homemade Garden Pea Ravioli made with seasonal ingredients, and handcrafted with handmade pasta, filling and brown butter sauce. Raviolis cook effortlessly in the Steam Oven at 212 degrees Fahrenheit according to Chef John Cardona, Corporate Chef at the Thermador Showroom. Make sure to add a little olive oil to keep the raviolis from sticking before placing the raviolis on your steam pan. Another favorite recipe of ours is our Fresh Linguine with Heirloom Tomato Sauce for a simple, handcrafted addition to your meal made right on your Cooktop or Rangetop.
For your Secondo, or second course, opt for a robust, protein-based dish like a Roasted Rack of Lamb with a Parmesan Mustard Herb Crust. This recipe is cooked to perfection in about 30 minutes in your Thermador Oven. Use the built-in meat probe to ensure an accurate doneness and a faster cook time.
Another important element to an Italian-inspired menu is the side dishes, or Contorni. This generally consists of vegetables, or a simple salad to accompany the main course. Try Healthy Steamed Seasonal Vegetables with Lemon Vinaigrette made with steam for enhanced flavor and nutrient retention, or opt for a traditional Caprese Salad.
Expert Wine Pairings
Now that you have your menu set, no pasta night is complete without the perfect wine to complement your flavors. Thermador Wine Refrigerators give you the freedom to personalize and take exceptional care of your wine collection. With enough space to hold up to 92 bottles, you can house chardonnays, pinots and more to perfection.
Kick off your feast with a moscato – the sweetness pairs well with the saltiness of cured meats. A syrah goes nicely with a red sauce for your Primi. A robust cabernet sauvignon is the perfect complement to a tiramisu’s espresso flavors or dark chocolate. Learn more about different flavor profiles from our Ultimate Wine Pairing Guide.
Pro tips: Store the charcuterie board from earlier on your Presenter Shelf of your Wine Column before you’re ready to serve to keep cheese and meats at the perfect temperature. Olive oil is also expertly preserved within Wine Refrigeration, best kept at 57 degrees Fahrenheit to maintain its flavor profile.
One of the best parts of making an Italian-inspired meal is it is easy to save for later and enjoy as leftovers. When stored and prepared correctly, homemade pasta can make for a delicious next day meal.
When creating fresh pasta, let it air dry and store in an airtight container in your Freezer Column or Bottom Freezer Refrigeration until you’re ready to use. Store your homemade sauce in a separate airtight container to maintain the integrity of each of the ingredients.
When you’re ready to enjoy your pasta again, remove from the Freezer and heat as usual on your Cooktop or Rangetop. Leftovers are also easily refreshed in the Steam Oven. Try also reheating your meat, fish and vegetable dishes with your Steam Oven for ultimate nutrient and flavor preservation.
