This year marks the 10th annual House Beautiful Kitchen of the Year — and Thermador was thrilled to be featured in the show home located in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco, California. This year’s kitchen was designed by the talented Jon de la Cruz of San Francisco’s DLC-ID, who brought his expert ability to create a space that is modern yet timeless and beautiful yet functional. His design honors a love of food and entertaining, and celebrates the kitchen as the new American living room.

The showcase home is owned by a couple with eight school-aged children, and the 625-square-foot kitchen is truly the heart of their home. To cater to the large family, Jon equipped the unique space with new Thermador 36” refrigerator and freezer columns, which will make their official debut later this year.

These large columns are perfect for storing fresh food for the entire family, and include innovative new features such as Open Door Assist, which allows you to open the door with a gentle touch. Glass shelves with aluminum trim enhance the fresh and modern design of the columns, while LED theater lighting ensures that everything can be easily seen—even items in the back of the refrigerator. The new ThermaFresh System preserves the aroma, flavor and crispness of foods, and the family will love that every setting is controlled by a newly designed electronic TFT display located at the top of each column.

Jon also installed the new 60” Pro Grand® Range with a Combination Steam Oven as the center point for the kitchen.  With unmatched versatility, exceptional cooking prowess and the largest combined oven capacity on the market, the 60” Pro Grand Range was a perfect fit for the family of 10, who can now achieve multiple culinary endeavors at once.

To maximize space and make the kitchen as functional as possible, Jon included the Under Counter Refrigerator Drawers and a 30” Triple Combo Oven – which includes an oven, convection microwave and warming drawer in one unit.

Jon shared his inspiration behind the Kitchen of the Year: “I wanted to create a sense of timelessness in the kitchen with custom casework and top-quality finishes, so it will remain vibrant and relevant as the family grows over the years,” he said. “And of course, it features
